This day isn’t just about raising awareness, it’s about recognising the incredible journeys of those who have undergone ostomy surgery and helping to break the stigma that still surrounds it.

What is World Ostomy Day?
World Ostomy Day shines a spotlight on ostomy awareness and the ongoing advancements in care and support for ostomates. It’s a day dedicated to breaking taboos, sharing experiences, and educating people about life with an ostomy. By doing so, we aim to create a world where ostomates feel fully accepted and supported.
Introducing the Oakmed Ambassadors
To celebrate World Ostomy Day, we’re launching our Ambassador Campaign, a heartfelt initiative that brings together real ostomates to share their personal stories, triumphs, and advice. These ambassadors represent the diversity of the ostomy community, whether they are young, older, new to life with a stoma, or experienced ostomates.
Through this campaign, we aim to…
- Raise Awareness: By featuring real stories from ostomates, we hope to educate people about what it means to live with a stoma and challenge any misconceptions.
- Provide Inspiration: Our ambassadors are going to share their stories to encourage and empower others who may be facing surgery or adapting to a new life with a stoma. These journeys remind us that there is life beyond surgery, full of opportunities and accomplishments.
- Build Community: The ostomy journey can feel isolating, but our campaign aims to foster a sense of belonging, where people can find support, share their challenges, and celebrate victories together.
For many, ostomy surgery can be life-changing, both physically and emotionally. While it often improves health and quality of life, adjusting to living with a stoma can be overwhelming. Our Ambassador Campaign aims to show that while there may be challenges, there is also strength, and a community ready to uplift and support one another.
Through the voices of our ambassadors, we hope to remind ostomates everywhere that they are not alone, that their experiences are valid, and that there is an entire network of people who understand what they’re going through!
