World IBD Day is coming up on the 19th May, providing the perfect opportunity for the community to come together and raise awareness for such an amazing cause. On this day every year, people from all over the world participate in the event and show support for those living with IBD.
Crohns and Colitis affect over 620,000 people across the UK alone, so it’s a condition that impacts a vast amount of people whether directly or through a family member. With the current situation it’s more important than ever to come together as a community, even if it has to be virtually for now.
We’ve got some ways in which you can get involved below, or you can find out more on the Crohn’s and Colitis website here.
Host a Virtual Coffee Morning
Crohn’s & Colitis UK are encouraging people to host a virtual coffee morning on the 19th of May for World IBD day. You could encourage your attendees to take part in fancy dress or encourage people to wear purple in support of IBD. To make the occasion a bit more fun, why not create your own quiz for you and your participants to get involved with? Simply ask for your participants to donate what they would have spent on a coffee and a cake and help raise money for such a great cause!
Of course, not only is this a good way of raising money, but it will also help many during these difficult times and show them that they aren’t alone.
Fundraising Ideas
Fundraising can be slightly harder when we’re all in isolation – but this doesn’t mean it isn’t possible! This is where you need to get creative and come up with a fun activity that you can do virtually with your family or friends. A few ideas include:
- Donate any money that you are saving during this time, whether it’s your bus fair or your morning coffee. Even a small amount can make a big difference.
- Host a virtual pub quiz as we’ve mentioned above!
- Arrange or take part in a virtual challenge – this could be a walk, a run or a cycle!
- Do a virtual cooking or baking competition with family or friends and ask each participant to donate.
Get Involved on Social Media
Of course, there are some really simple ways in which you can get involved and spread the word. If you’re active on social media, share any posts you see about World IBD Day with your network or tag a friend!
You can also temporarily change your profile picture so it is in the World IBD Day 2020 frame on Facebook. Find out more to do this here.
Get Talking…
This is arguably the most important way that you can get involved in World IBD Day this year. Start a conversation with someone you know who suffers with IBD or if you suffer yourself, open up to others and have a conversation about it! Not only can this make you and others feel better and less alone, particularly with the current situation, but it can go a long way to helping remove the taboo.
IBD affects a huge amount of people across the UK alone, so on the 19th May, let’s all play our part and raise awareness for such an important cause.
